Barton women’s soccer comes up short to Francis Marion in league action Saturday at home

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (1-2-2, 1-1-1) was shut out at home to Francis Marion (6-1, 3-0) by a 2-0 score Saturday afternoon at a rainy and windy Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.

The Patriots' Kristina Syragakis (Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, CANADA) scored both goals in the match to increase her conference-leading total to 10 on the season as Francis Marion remained unbeaten in league play.

Syragakis opened the scoring at the 29:09 mark of the first half when she settled a long pass from JG Garon (Fort Mill, S.C.), outmaneuvered a defender and found the back right corner of the net for the score.  Garon was credited with the assist.

Syragakis took a backwards flick from Ashley Jordan (Marshall, Victoria, AUSTRALIA) and scored in the box in the 62nd minute to round out the scoring in the second half.  Jordan was credited with the assist as well.

The Patriots, winners of three straight matches, held a 17-10 advantage while Makayla Willets (Mastic, N.Y.) earned the shutout victory in goal.  Willets stopped three shots on the day.  Barton senior Cara Davis (Angier, N.C.) took the loss in goal for the home team.  Davis tallied four saves.  Barton junior defender Gianna Ferigne (Brick, N.J.) led the home team with four shots.

Barton next travels to Pembroke, N.C., to face conference-foe UNC Pembroke on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Francis Marion takes on Converse in a league match next Saturday, September 30, in Spartanburg, S.C., at 2:00 p.m.
