Barton men’s soccer team outscored by Francis Marion, 3-2, Saturday evening at home

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (2-5-1, 1-3) was outlasted by Francis Marion (4-1-2, 4-0), 3-2, Saturday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at a wet and windy Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

The Patriots' Vicente Arratia Veit (Santiago, CHILE) scored the match-winner in the 52nd minute to go along with a pair of assists as Francis Marion remained unbeaten in league play.

Four of the five goals were scored in the first 24 minutes of the contest as the two squads battled back and forth.  Barton sophomore forward Tommy Migliarotti (Milan, ITALY) found the back of the net just 36 seconds after the Patriots' Edorta Cabieces (Bilbao, SPAIN) opened the scoring at the 12:05 mark.

Barton freshman midfielder Kai Thurston (Harleston, ENGLAND) tied the score at two-all after heading in a corner kick from junior forward Gabriel Slemer Lopes (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) in the 24th minute.  The goal was Thurston's team first of the season.

Sebastian Garcia (Asuncion, PARAGUAY) also headed in a ball off a corner kick with 19:04 on the clock for the Patriots, who held an 11-8 advantage in shots taken.

In goal, Francis Marion's Felipe Ramos Peralta (Arica, CHILE) and sophomore Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) both stopped five shots while Peralta picked up the victory.

Barton will look to bounce back on Wednesday when the Bulldogs host North Carolina Wesleyan beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Francis Marion hosts Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., as well.
