MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (4-5, 0-1) opened Conference Carolinas play with a 3-1 loss to rival Mount Olive (7-5, 1-0) Wednesday evening at the Kornegay Arena.
The Trojans won over the Bulldogs by scores of 25-15, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-18 for their second consecutive victory.
Mount Olive received 12 kills from Karoline Cox (Roxboro, N.C) and 22 assists each from Jenna Myer (Clayton, N.C.) and Lyndsay Reid (Thomasville, N.C.) as the Trojans held a 54-32 edge in total kills and finished with 12 service aces in the triumph.
Barton was led by junior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) with nine kills to go along with 17 digs while senior middle blocker
Kate Lawrence (Sanford, N.C.) chipped in with eight kills in the setback. The Trojans also limited the Bulldogs to a .096 hitting percentage in the contest.
Barton returns home to take on Young Harris in a Conference Carolinas match on Friday at Wilson Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Mount Olive hosts Erskine Friday at 6:00 p.m.
