WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (0-1-1) suffered a 3-0 setback to Tusculum (2-0) Saturday afternoon in the Bulldogs' 2023 home opener at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.
The Pioneers scored all three goals in the second half led by Pedro Concheso (Gijon, SPAIN) with a pair of scores at the 54:32 and 74:53 marks of the contest, respectively.
Tusculum broke a scoreless tie when J-P Vital (Greenville, Tenn.) found the back of the net in the box off a pass from the right side courtesy of Ndubueze Henry (Lagos, NIGERIA) just under three-and-a-half minutes after intermission. Henry was credited with the assist.
Barton held a 9-1 advantage in shots taken despite a scoreless tie at halftime. In goal, Nicholas Leite (Santo Andre, BRAZIL) earned a second straight shutout victory for the Pioneers after making four saves while Barton sophomore
Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) suffered the loss despite three stops on the day.
Barton looks to bounce back when the Bulldogs travel to Gaffney, S.C., to take on Limestone Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., while Tusculum faces King on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., in Bristol, Tenn.
