MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (2-3-1, 1-1) fell to Mount Olive (1-3-1, 1-1) by a 2-0 score Saturday night in a Conference Carolinas rivalry contest at Amon Field.
The Trojans – winners of their first contest of the season – received goals from Zachary Applewhite (Saint George, BARBADOS) at the 40:20 and 83:58 marks of the contest, respectively.
Barton lost despite holding a 10-9 advantage in shots taken but were kept off the board for the fourth time this season.
Mount Olive's goalkeeper, Axel Engren (Sundsvall, SWEDEN), earned the shutout victory after stopping four shots while Barton sophomore goalkeeper
Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) suffered the loss despite three saves on the night.
Barton will look to bounce back on Wednesday when the Bulldogs travel to Murfreesboro, N.C., to take on league-foe Chowan starting at 4:00 p.m., while Mount Olive hosts Francis Marion Tuesday starting at 7:00 p.m.
