GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (3-3) lost twice on the first day of the Redderson Invitational, hosted by Lander University, Friday at Finis Horne Arena. The Bulldogs lost to both the Broncos and Bearcats by scores of 3-0.
Fayetteville State 3, Barton 0
The Broncos (3-7) defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-19 to snap a five-match losing streak.
Fayetteville State was led by A'Lexus Everett (Detroit, Mich.) with 11 kills while Jaida Bynum (Largo, Md.) added 20 assists in the victory.
Barton junior outside hitter
Henly Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) paced the Bulldogs with 10 kills to go along with 10 digs for a double-double and senior setter
Madison Greene (Angier, N.C.) added 15 assists and six digs in the losing effort. Barton hit just .168 for the match.
Lander 3, Barton 0
The Bearcats (8-2) made it four victories in a row with a sweep of the Bulldogs, 25-13, 25-21 and 25-13.
Lander hit .308 for the contest and was led by Katie Miller (Sugar City, Idaho) with 18 kills and 15 digs for a double-double while Lauren Dow (Pickens, S.C.) added a double-double of her own – 32 assists and 14 digs – in the victory.
Barton senior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) finished with 10 kills and moved up to eighth all-time on the Bulldogs' career list with 1,148 while junior defensive specialist
Lilly Meyer (Greencastle, Ind.) totaled 21 digs in the setback.
Barton will look to bounce back on the final day of the tournament with matches against Lincoln Memorial (10:00 a.m.) and Elizabeth City State (3:00 p.m.) on Saturday.
