WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (3-1) split its two matches Sunday at Wilson Gymnasium, falling to UVA Wise (5-2) by a 3-2 score before sweeping Virginia State (1-4), 3-0.

The Cavaliers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Bulldogs by scores of 25-14, 25-22, 13-25, 14-25 and 17-15.
UVA Wise's Riley Brandon (Kingsport, Tenn.) finished with 13 kills while Kaylee Scarce (Dry Fork, Va.) added a dozen kills in the victory. The Cavaliers' Piper Suddeth (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) tallied a double-double – 20 assists and 10 digs – in the come-from-behind triumph.
Barton lost despite senior outside hitter
Allison Gambill's (Hickory, N.C.) 15 kills and junior outside hitter
Lauryn Pitt's (Greenville, N.C.) 13 kills. Senior setter
Madison Greene (Angier, N.C.) finished with a double-double – 27 assists and 19 digs – for the Bulldogs, who were hurt by 16 reception errors.
Barton 3, Virginia State 0
The Bulldogs recovered with a sweep of the Trojans, 25-20, 25-18 and 25-11.
Gambill totaled 13 kills and 11 digs for a double-double and Greene added 19 assists for the Bulldogs, who limited the Trojans to a .043 hitting percentage. Kennedy Hoge (Yorktown, Va.) finished with six kills in the losing effort.
UVA Wise defeated Virginia State, 3-1 (23-25, 27-25, 25-19 and 25-17), in the second match of the tri-meet this afternoon.
Barton next competes in the Redderson Invitational on Friday, September 15, against Fayetteville State (Noon) and Lander (2:30 p.m.) in Greenwood, S.C., on the campus of Lander University.
