WILSON, N.C. – The Barton football team (1-0) got its 2023 season off to a rousing start with a 41-0 shutout win over Chowan (0-1) Thursday evening at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

Jaquan Lynch (Rocky Mount, N.C.) got things going with a pair of rushing touchdowns on the squad's first two drives of the game while junior defensive tackle
Alex Gowda (Graham, N.C.) recovered a fumble in the end zone early in the second quarter which gave the Bulldogs a 21-0 lead and the rout was on.
Barton rushed for 338 yards in the contest – including 186 yards on the ground from junior running back and honorable mention All-American
Jordan Terrell (Ramseur, N.C.) – and finished with 437 yards of total offense in win. Lynch added a touchdown pass at the 5:04 mark of the third quarter.
On defense, Barton junior linebacker
Shane Perry (Holly Springs, N.C.) finished with eight tackles while junior defensive back
Mike Webb (Winterville, N.C.) picked off two passes in the first quarter as the Bulldogs limited the Hawks to just 129 yards of total offense.
Chowan was shut out for the first time since September 20, 2014, a 59-0 loss to North Carolina A&T.
Barton hits the road to take on Davidson, an NCAA Division I foe, on Saturday, September 9, beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Chowan hosts Delta State Saturday, September 9 at 1:00 p.m., in its home opener.
