WILSON, N.C. – The Barton football team (1-0) got its 2023 season off to a rousing start with a 41-0 shutout win over Chowan (0-1) Thursday evening at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

Barton junior quarterback Jaquan Lynch (Rocky Mount, N.C.) got things going with a pair of rushing touchdowns on the squad's first two drives of the game while junior defensive tackle Alex Gowda (Graham, N.C.) recovered a fumble in the end zone early in the second quarter which gave the Bulldogs a 21-0 lead and the rout was on.

Barton rushed for 338 yards in the contest – including 186 yards on the ground from junior running back and honorable mention All-American Jordan Terrell (Ramseur, N.C.) – and finished with 437 yards of total offense in win.  Lynch added a touchdown pass at the 5:04 mark of the third quarter.

On defense, Barton junior linebacker Shane Perry (Holly Springs, N.C.) finished with eight tackles while junior defensive back Mike Webb (Winterville, N.C.) picked off two passes in the first quarter as the Bulldogs limited the Hawks to just 129 yards of total offense.
