MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (8-6, 3-2) picked up its second straight win with a 20-13 triumph over Chowan (4-8, 2-2) on a wet Hawks Field in a key Conference Carolinas contest on Saturday afternoon.
Barton was paced by senior attacker
Mason Chaney (Dunkirk, Md.) and graduate student midfielder
Mark Crawford (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) with five goals each while Chaney tied school single-game marks with six assists and 11 total points in the victory.
Crawford, meanwhile, crossed the 200-point mark for his career and now has 203 total points, ranking first all-time on the program list.
Barton held a 11-9 advantage early in the third quarter before finding the back of the net five straight times to break the contest open. Senior attacker
Matt Calleri (Holly Springs, N.C.) added three goals and five assists and senior midfielder
B.J. Wilson (Tampa, Fla.) scored three times as the visitors assisted on 15 of the squad's 20 goals.
For Chowan, Noah Jalal (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) scored four goals – a team-high – but goalkeeper Gavin Koors (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) stopped 19 shots and suffered the loss. Freshman goalkeeper
Alexander Stewart (Harford County, Md.) played the first half, made five saves and earned the win for Barton, which held advantages in both shots taken (56-38) and ground balls (51-38).
Barton hits the road again to take on North Greenville next Saturday, April 15, beginning at Noon in a league contest in the final regular season game of the year while Chowan takes on Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C., next Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
