TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (8-7, 3-3) wrapped up the regular season portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon with a 15-12 setback to North Greenville (8-6, 4-1) in a Conference Carolinas game at Pepsi Stadium.
The Crusaders' Thomas Cecere (Grand Island, N.Y.) finished with a game-high four goals while Matt Heyden (Brockport, N.Y.) added three scores as North Greenville won its fifth straight contest
Barton, which battled North Greenville to a 7-7 at halftime, was paced by senior midfielder
B.J. Wilson (Tampa, Fla.) and senior attacker
Matt Calleri (Holly Springs, N.C.) with three goals each. Calleri added three assists for six total points on the day.
After intermission, the Crusaders found the back of the net three straight times to take the lead for good including the match-winner from Ayden Sizemore (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) just 57 seconds into the second half.
North Greenville held advantages in both shots taken (52-46) and ground balls (32-29) while Joe Amici (Williamsville, N.Y.) earned the win in goal after stopping 12 shots for the Crusaders. Barton freshman goalkeeper
Alexander Stewart (Harford County, Md.) made seven saves but suffered the loss.
Barton will next compete in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2023 Conference Carolinas Championship on Monday, April 24, while North Greenville travels to Franklin Springs, Ga., to take on Emmanuel in its final regular season game of the year on Thursday starting at 4:00 p.m. The Crusaders also wrapped up the second seed in the league tournament.
