SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (8-7, 5-3) registered a 15-10 Conference Carolinas victory over Converse (8-7, 4-3) Saturday afternoon at Hayden Abney Fulp Field at Weisiger Stadium.
Barton sophomore attacker
Samantha Serio (Long Island, N.Y.) led all scorers with four goals as the Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-1 lead after one quarter of play and held off a mini-rally by Converse to take the victory.
Junior attacker
Sydney Quinn (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) added three goals to increase her team-high this season to 29 while sophomore goalkeeper
Savannah Graves (Calvert County, Md.) earned the win after stopping nine shots on the day. The Bulldogs also improved to 6-1 on the year away from home.
Converse was led by Karter Lauer (Delafield, Wis.) with three goals but the first-period deficit was too great to overcome. The Valkyries held edges in both shots taken (33-31) and ground balls (26-22) while Reagan Collins (Spartanburg, S.C.) made six saves in goal despite the loss.
Barton returns home to take on Chowan on Senior Day in the regular season finale on Friday beginning at 4:00 p.m., in a league contest while Converse travels to Belmont, N.C., to take on Belmont Abbey on Tuesday starting at 4:00 p.m.
