BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (4-17, 4-9) snapped a seven-match losing streak with a 3-2 victory over Lees-McRae (9-14, 5-7) Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium in a Conference Carolinas contest.
Barton won over Lees-McRae by scores of 25-18, 13-25, 15-25, 25-20 and 17-15 and won a five-set match for the first time in six tries this year.
The Bulldogs were led by sophomore middle blocker
Benjamin Wiechert (Suffolk, Va.) with 10 kills while sophomore setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wisc.) had a good all-around contest with nine assists, five kills and nine blocks in the triumph.
Lees-McRae's Sebastian Heer (Weston, Fla.) totaled a match-high 13 kills and was one of four Bobcats with at least 11 or more kills on the day. Lees-McRae held a 57-37 edge in kills but was hurt by 18 service errors in losing its third straight contest. The Bobcats' Bradley Peters (Virginia Beach, Va.) added a double-double – 48 assists and 11 digs – in the setback.
In addition, Barton totaled 18 blocks on the day while senior right side hitter
Jake Adams (Clermont, Fla.) continued his strong play of late with nine more kills and 10 digs.
Barton returns home to take on Tusculum in a non-league contest Friday beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Wilson Gymnasium while Lees-McRae hosts Belmont Abbey on Wednesday starting at 5:00 p.m.
