GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Barton men's golf team tied for fifth overall at the Bearcat Classic which concluded Tuesday with the end of the second round and the third and final round at the Greenwood Country Club. Lander University served as the host institution.
The Bulldogs finished with an even-par 864 on the par-72, 6,800-yard course while Anderson took home team honors with a 15-under 849 performance after 54 holes of play. Anderson is the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II while Barton is No. 22 in the nation.
Barton was led by freshman
Jake Conklin (Chapel Hill, N.C.), who tied for 15th overall with a one-under 215. Meanwhile, junior
Harrison Wierse (Wilmington, N.C.) was one stroke behind – an even-par 216 – and tied for 19th after three rounds of play for the Bulldogs.
Lander's Linus Johnsson (Skänninge, SWEDEN) won in a playoff over Wingate's Nick Fleming (Cabins, W.Va.) to capture the individual title. Both players carded a nine-under 207.
The Bulldogs host their annual Barton Intercollegiate on Monday, March 13, and Tuesday, March 14, at the Wilson Country Club in Wilson, N.C.
