WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (8-9) made it five straight victories with a 9-6 win over Emory & Henry (7-12) Tuesday afternoon at Nixon Field.
Barton sophomore
Andrew Simone (Vineland, N.J.) (3-1) did not allow a hit in five innings of work to pick up the win while sophomore catcher
Chase Waddell (Lucama, N.C.) hit a home run for the second straight game and junior first baseman
John McNamee (Philadelphia, Pa.) drove in three runs as the Bulldogs held off the Wasps for the win.
Emory & Henry's Mason Lyda (Mills River, N.C.) hit a three-run home run as part of a four-run ninth inning but the Wasps couldn't get any closer the rest of the way.
Barton senior
Connor Patterson (Randleman, N.C.) closed out the game for his first save of the year while Emory & Henry's Hunter Kirkpatrick (Albany, Ore.) (0-2) was tagged with the loss.
Barton remains at home to take on Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolinas contest Friday beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Emory & Henry faces Chowan on Wednesday in Murfreesboro, N.C., starting at 1:00 p.m.
