FAIRFAX, Va. – The Barton men's volleyball team (3-11) suffered a 3-1 loss to George Mason (5-9), an NCAA Division I school, Saturday evening at the Recreation Athletic Center.
The Patriots defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 25-19, 25-14, 24-26 and 25-16 and snapped Barton's two-match winning streak.
George Mason, which pushed its winning streak to three matches, was led by Liam French (Virginia Beach, Va.) with a match-high 18 kills while Georgi Zahariev (Stara Zagora, BULGARIA) neared a double-double with 46 assists and nine digs as the home team hit .328 for the contest in the triumph. George Mason also tallied 12 service aces on the night.
Barton was led by junior outside hitter
Brandon Johnston (Hawkes Bay, NEW ZEALAND) with a team-high 16 kills and sophomore setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wisc.) came through with 28 assists, six digs and a pair of service aces in the setback.
Barton next travels to Franklin Springs, Ga., to take on Emmanuel in a Conference Carolinas match on Friday, March 17, beginning at 7:00 p.m., while George Mason hosts Limestone next Friday starting at 7:00 p.m.
