FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Barton men's volleyball team (3-12, 3-5) fell in a five-setter to Emmanuel (Ga.) (7-13, 2-6), 3-2, Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at the Shaw Athletic Center.
The Lions won over the Bulldogs by scores of 25-27, 25-16, 21-25, 25-17 and 15-9 and rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take the fourth and fifth sets in the win.
Emmanuel, which saw its four-match losing streak come to an end, was led by Jayden Young (West Palm Beach, Fla.) with a match-high 23 kills while Nicklas Eichenberger (Lee's Summit, Mo.) added 20 kills to power the Lions to the win.
The Lions' Henrik Westhoff (Bocholt, GERMANY) tallied a double-double – 55 assists and 13 digs – as the home team hit .270 for the match in the win. Emmanuel also avenged an earlier loss to Barton.
Barton junior outside hitter
Brandon Johnston (Hawkes Bay, NEW ZEALAND) totaled 14 kills and 11 digs and sophomore setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wisc.) also finished with a double-double – 45 assists and 12 digs – and junior middle blocker
Thomas Fanic (Narbonne, FRANCE) added 13 kills but the Bulldogs were limited to a .155 hitting percentage in the setback.
Barton remains on the road to take on Erskine in Due West, S.C., in a league match on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Emmanuel hosts Mount Olive Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
