WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor portion of its schedule this past Friday and Saturday at UNC Wilmington's Seahawk Invitational at the Greene Complex.
Barton senior
Deshawn Owens (Pikeville, N.C.) won the men's 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:08.31 and finished third in the men's 5,000-meter run (15:39.37), a new school-record time.
Meanwhile, senior
Quante Downey (Rocky Mount, N.C.) took runner-up on the men's pole vault (12'6") and freshman
Chace Pearson (Sicklerville, N.J.) was third in the men's long jump (22'2"). Another top-five finish for the Bulldogs came from junior
Jacquez Durham (Clayton, N.C.) with his fifth-place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdles (15.80).
On the women's side for Barton, freshman
Cassandra Schrubb (Piqua, Ohio) took fourth place in the 5,000-meter run (19:49.86) and senior
Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.) was sixth overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.04.
The Barton track teams will next compete in the Adidas Trojan Challenge on Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25, at Ray McDonald, Sr., Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C.
