WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (5-9, 2-5) picked up an 11-3 win over King (8-5, 1-5) in a Conference Carolinas game Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.
Barton junior outfielder
Carelle Gonzalez (Bridgeton, N.J.) hit a three-run home run while junior designated hitter
Tanner Halvorson (Eau Claire, Wis.) added a solo round-tripper as the Bulldogs rallied from a 3-0 deficit after a half-inning of play to take the win.
Barton freshman second baseman
Salvatore Laimo (Philadelphia, Pa.) added three RBI including the game-winning two-run single in the sixth inning which broke a three-all tie.
King's Junior Renwick (Havelock, N.C.) highlighted the Tornado's first inning with a two-run single but the visitors were kept off the board the rest of the way.
On the mound, Barton junior
Patrick Groark (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) (1-0) earned the win in relief after striking out five batters while King's Christian Walzak (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) (1-2) was tagged with the loss.
Barton hosts King in a doubleheader to wrap up the league weekend series Sunday morning beginning at 11:00 a.m.
