BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (5-4, 2-0) remained unbeaten in Conference Carolinas play with an 18-6 victory over Lees-McRae (1-4, 1-2) Saturday afternoon at Tate Field.
A trio of Bulldogs – sophomore attacker
Samantha Serio (Long Island, N.Y.), freshman midfielder
Taryn Ugliono (Hampstead, N.C.) and junior attacker
Sydney Quinn (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) – scored three goals each in the victory.
Serio added a pair of assists for five total points while Quinn continues to lead the team in goals scored (19) and total points (24) this season. Holding a 4-3 advantage at the end of the first period, the Bulldogs reeled off six straight goals to take control.
Haley Donovan (Frisco, Texas) scored three times to lead Lees-McRae, who suffered its second straight loss. Barton held sizable advantages in both shots taken (45-9) and ground balls (34-22) while freshman goalkeeper
Avery Gandolf (Medina, Ohio) earned the victory for the visitors.
Lees-McRae's goalkeeper, Aviva Beringhause (Providence, R.I.), suffered the loss despite 20 saves on the afternoon. Barton also forced Lees-McRae into 34 turnovers in the triumph.
Barton returns home to host rival Mount Olive in a league game on Thursday beginning at 5:00 p.m., while Lees-McRae faces Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C., on Wednesday starting at 5:00 p.m.
