Barton baseball powers by Erskine, 13-10, to take league weekend series

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (14-10, 9-6) was able to hold off Erskine (15-11, 5-9), 13-10, in the third and final game of a Conference Carolinas weekend series Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.

Barton junior designated hitter Tanner Halvorson (Eau Claire, Wisc.) hit his team-tying fourth home run of the season and drove in a game-high four runs as the Bulldogs were able to recover from a 21-9 setback to the Flying Fleet in the weekend's first contest on Friday to take two straight games.

After Erskine's Dalton Boyd (Winter Haven, Fla.) hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give the visitors a 10-9 advantage, Barton responded with three runs in its half of the frame to take the lead for good.  Barton sophomore shortstop Jared Beebe (Atco, N.J.) drove in the game-winning run while sophomore catcher Chase Waddell (Lucama, N.C.) added three RBI in the victory.

Boyd drove in four runs for the Flying Fleet, who were tagged with three errors in the contest.  Barton junior Brett Anderson (Milford, N.H.) (2-0) was credited with the win in relief while Johnny Hummel (Matthews, N.C.) (1-2) took the setback.

Barton steps out of league play and will travel to Salisbury, N.C., to take on Catawba Wednesday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Erskine hosts Chowan on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
