Barton women’s lacrosse opens league play with dominant victory over Southern Wesleyan, 23-5

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (4-4, 1-0) opened the Conference Carolinas portion of its schedule with a 23-5 victory over Southern Wesleyan (0-4, 0-2) Saturday afternoon at Childs Field.

Barton freshman midfielder Taryn Ugliono (Hampstead, N.C.) scored a match-high four goals while a pair of Bulldogs – junior attacker Sydney Quinn (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) and freshman midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) – both scored three times as the visitors jumped out to a 16-3 halftime advantage and never looked back in the rousing victory.  Ugliono also tallied three assists for seven total points on the day.

Quinn has a team-leading 16 goals and 20 points on the season and Barton held decisive edges in shots taken (34-12) and ground balls (20-13) in the victory over Southern Wesleyan.  The Bulldogs also registered a season-high in goals scored, their most in two years.

Lauryn Esposito (Calvert County, Md.) scored four of the Warriors' five goals but Southern Wesleyan continues to search for its first win of the year.  In goal, Barton freshman Avery Gandolf (Medina, Ohio) improved to 3-0 on the season after tallying a pair of saves while Southern Wesleyan's Caroline Lark (Boiling Springs, S.C.) made four stops but the suffered the loss.

Barton remains on the road to take on Lees-McRae next Saturday, March 18, in league action in Banner Elk, N.C., beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Southern Wesleyan hosts Alliance on Tuesday starting at 5:00 p.m.
