LAKELAND, Fla. – The Barton men's golf team kicked off the spring portion of its schedule with a sixth-place finish at the Matlock Collegiate Classic which concluded with the third and final round at the Lone Palm Golf Club.
Barton finished with a 904 (+40) on the par-72, 7,151-yard course while ninth-ranked Nova Southeastern won the tournament with an 895 (+31) over 54 holes of play.
The Bulldogs, as a team, shot the low round of the day – an 11-over 299 – and moved up two places after its eighth-place standing Monday. Barton was led by sophomore
Mitchell Soma (New Albany, Ohio), who tied for 10th overall with a 224 (+8).
Barry's Felipe Alvarez (Bogota, COLOMBIA) was the individual champion after finishing with a one-under 217 over three rounds.
Barton will next host the Spring Bulldog Clash on Monday, February 27, and Tuesday, February 28, at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, S.C.
