LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Barton men's and women's indoor track and field teams put on another strong showing at the 2023 Liberty Indoor Open Saturday at the Flames Complex.
Barton junior
Jacquez Durham (Clayton, N.C.) finished first in his preliminary round of the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.11 seconds while freshman
Chace Pearson (Sicklerville, N.J.) took sixth overall in the men's long jump (21'11").
In addition, Barton senior
Quante Downey (Rocky Mount, N.C.) placed ninth in the men's pole vault (12'10") while
Deshawn Owens (Pikeville, N.C.) rounded out the top-ten performers for the Bulldogs with his 10th-place finish in the men's one-mile run. Owens clocked a school-record 4:22.43.
On the women's side, Barton freshman
Cassandra Schrubb (Piqua, Ohio) was the top performer for the squad thanks to her 14th-place finish in the 3,000-meter run (11:15.64).
Barton next competes in the 2023 Conference Carolinas Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday, February 19, and Monday, February 20, at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
