Barton baseball gets by Bridgeport, 11-9, Tuesday at home

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (4-9) held off Bridgeport (Conn.) (2-4), 11-9, Tuesday afternoon at Nixon Field.

Barton junior outfielder Joshua Hoffman (Belle Vernon, Pa.) hit a three-run home run and junior first baseman John McNamee (Philadelphia, Pa.) added three hits and three runs batted in as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 9-3 advantage after four innings of play on their way to the win.

Bridgeport's Anthony Pascale (Stony Brook, N.Y.) and Christian Ortiz (Linden, N.J.) both drove in a pair of runs but the early deficit was too great to overcome.  Joe Nemchek (Trumbull, Conn.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss for the Purple Knights.

After seeing its lead close to 9-7, the Bulldogs reasserted themselves with a two-run seventh inning highlighted by an RBI triple from junior infielder Ryan McIsaac (Millville, N.J.).  McIsaac finished with a pair of hits and two runs batted in while sophomore Andrew Simone (Vineland, N.J.) (2-1) earned the win in relief for the home team.  Barton junior Brett Anderson (Milford, N.H.) pitched the ninth inning for his first save of the year.

Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play this Saturday when the Bulldogs host King (Tenn.) in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m., while Bridgeport takes on Francis Marion Wednesday starting at 6:00 p.m., in Florence, S.C.
