Barton men’s lacrosse wins fourth straight match, 18-8 over Coker on the road

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (4-1) made it four victories in a row with an 18-8 win over Coker (3-2) Saturday evening at the Cobras Athletic Field.

Barton senior attacker Mason Chaney (Dunkirk, Md.) led all scorers with four goals while graduate student midfielder Mark Crawford (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) added a hat trick as the Bulldogs broke a four-all tie midway through the second period with a 10-0 run to turn the contest into a rout.

Chaney leads the squad with 18 goals on the year and has a program-record 127 goals for his collegiate career while junior midfielder Ian Howard (Wake Forest, N.C.) scored the match-winner at the 8:05 mark of the second half.  Howard was one of four other Bulldogs to register a pair of goals in the victory.

Coker was paced by Ryan Forehand (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Elijah Utz (Macedon, N.Y.) with two goals each but the deficit was too great to overcome.

Barton held advantages in both shots taken (45-37) and ground balls (28-18) while freshman goalkeeper Drew Wheeler (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) earned the win after totaling 13 saves.  Coker's K.J. Seymour (Ball Ground, Ga.) suffered the loss in goal despite 11 stops on the night.

Barton next faces Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday, March 4, at 3:00 p.m., in West Palm Beach, Fla., while faces Anderson next Saturday beginning at 7:00 p.m., in Anderson, S.C.
