Barton men’s volleyball falls in four sets to Mount Olive Tuesday on the road

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (1-10, 1-4) came up short to Mount Olive (5-8, 1-4) by a 3-1 score Tuesday night in a Conference Carolinas rivalry match at Kornegay Arena.

The Trojans, who snapped a seven-game losing streak, defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-16.

Mount Olive was led by Justin Gregory (Palm Beach, Fla.) with a match-high 21 kills while Tate Sandvig (Boone, Iowa) added 17 kills as the Trojans held a 67-37 edge in total kills and hit .385 in the victory.  In addition, Jackson Lahey (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) added a double-double – 57 assists and 11 digs – in the triumph.

Barton was paced by junior outside hitter Brandon Johnston (Hawkes Bay, NEW ZEALAND) and junior middle blocker Thomas Fanic (Narbonne, FRANCE) with 11 and 10 kills each, respectively. 

The Trojans were able to overcome 17 service errors in the win as well.

Barton returns home to take on Lees-McRae on Friday night in a league match at Wilson Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Mount Olive hosts King Friday starting at 7:00 p.m.
