WILSON, N.C. – For the first time in nearly two years, the Barton men's volleyball (1-9, 1-3) earned a victory after a 3-1 triumph over Emmanuel (5-7, 1-3) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs – who notched their first win since a 3-2 victory over Erskine on Saturday, April 3, 2021 – won over the Lions by scores of 26-24, 20-25, 25-19 and 25-20. The victory was also the first under new mentor
J.T. Deppe.
Barton was led by sophomore right side hitter
Jake Adams (Clermont, Fla.) with a career-high 16 kills while sophomore setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wis.) added 42 assists, seven digs and three assists as the Bulldogs snapped a 31-game losing streak.
Emmanuel, who was led by Jayden Young (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Carlos Guerrero (Ewabeach, Hawai'i) with 18 and 17 kills, respectively, held a 61-46 advantage in total kills but the Bulldogs notched 19 total blocks and hit .322 for the match.
Barton hits the road to take on rival Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C., on Tuesday evening starting at 7:00 p.m., in a league affair while Emmanuel takes on Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C., at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday as well.
