BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (0-8, 0-2) fell to Belmont Abbey (3-7, 2-1) by a 3-1 score Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match at the Wheeler Center.
The Crusaders won over the Bulldogs by scores of 25-18, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-22 in winning their second straight contest.
Belmont Abbey was led by Matteo Miselli (Reggio Emilia, ITALY) was a match-high 14 kills while Matthew Staskunas (New Berlin, Wis.) added a dozen kills in the victory. Matthew Maxwell (Manahawkin, N.J.) dished out 43 assists as the home team hit .294 for the match in the triumph.
Barton was led by junior outside hitter
Brandon Johnston (Hawkes Bay, NEW ZEALAND) with 11 kills and sophomore middle blocker
Benjamin Wiechert (Suffolk, Va.) and junior middle blocker
Thomas Fanic (Narbonne, FRANCE) with 10 kills each despite the loss.
Belmont Abbey also totaled nine service aces and limited the Bulldogs to a .189 hitting percentage on the day.
Barton returns home to take on Erskine on Friday at 7:00 p.m., in a league match at Wilson Gymnasium while Belmont Abbey travels to Tigerville, S.C., to take on North Greenville Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
