FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (7-15, 3-10) pushed Francis Marion (12-13, 8-4) to five sets but fell by a 3-2 score to the Patriots in a Conference Carolinas match Wednesday evening at the Pearl Moore Center.
The Patriots won over the Bulldogs by scores of 25-23, 14-25, 25-19, 21-25 and 15-11 to win their second straight contest.
Francis Marion was led by Madilyn Gartner (Albertville, Minn.) and Kara Walker (Fayetteville, N.C.) with 13 kills each while Kaylee Gillespie (Pickens, S.C.) tallied a double-double – 50 assists and 19 digs – in the victory. The Patriots also overcame 18 service aces in the triumph.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) with a season-high 21 kills to go along with 17 digs for her 13th double-double on the year while junior outside hitter
Henly Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) totaled 15 kills and 12 digs in the losing effort.
In addition, sophomore setter
Sadie Hill (Ashland, Ky.) finished with a season-high 32 assists to go along with nine digs in the setback for the Bulldogs.
Barton returns home to take on Erskine in a league match Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., at Wilson Gymnasium while Francis Marion hosts King Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m.
