WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (5-5-4) downed Shaw (11-4-1), 3-1, Tuesday evening in a non-conference affair at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
Barton senior forward
Kassie Krul (Rockport, Maine) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the year off a penalty kick in the 85th minute and added the assist on the match-winner to lead the Bulldogs to the win.
With the score tied at one, Krul found senior forward
Lexis Goldberg (Sanford, N.C.) streaking down the field and fed her an over-the-top pass from about midfield for the go-ahead score at the 61:17 mark of the contest.
The goal was Goldberg's first of the season. Senior midfielder
Anna Fretwell (Sneads Ferry, N.C.) opened the scoring with a goal in her second straight match in the 28th minute for the Bulldogs. Matilde Strocchi (London, ENGLAND) scored for the visitors.
Barton held a 12-10 advantage in shots taken while senior goalkeeper
Cara Davis (Angier, N.C.) made five saves and earned the victory. Shaw's Paige Ellis (Baldwin City, Kan.) suffered the loss in goal despite stopping a pair of shots.
Barton hits the road for its regular season finale on Friday when the Bulldogs travel to Tigerville, S.C., to take on North Greenville beginning at 7:30 p.m., in a Conference Carolinas contest.
