WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (7-14, 3-9) tried to rally from two sets down but fell in a five-set thriller to Mount Olive (16-7, 10-2), 3-2, Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Trojans won over the Bulldogs by scores of 25-11, 25-23, 23-25, 17-25 and 15-12 to sweep the season series from Barton and win their fourth straight match.
Mount Olive was led by Karoline Cox (Roxboro, N.C.) with a match-high 16 kills and was one of three players to register at least 10 kills in the contest for the visitors while Jenna Myer (Clayton, N.C.) added 28 assists as the Trojans tallied 11 service aces in the triumph.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) with 14 kills to go along with 11 digs for her 12th double-double on the year while junior outside hitter
Henly Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) also came through with a monster double-double – 13 kills and 19 digs – despite the setback.
Barton junior defensive specialist
Lilly Meyer (Greencastle, Ind.) added a match-high 23 digs in the losing effort.
Barton returns to the court to take on Francis Marion in a league contest Wednesday, October 25, at 7:00 p.m., in Florence, S.C., while Mount Olive travels to Greenwood, S.C., to play Lander Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
