FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (4-4-4, 4-3-3) pulled out a 1-0 upset victory over Francis Marion (7-3-3, 4-2-3) in a Conference Carolinas match Tuesday evening at Hartzler Field.
The Bulldogs' sophomore midfielder
Iris Gissuradottir (Selfoss, ICELAND) scored the lone goal of the match – her second score of the year – at the 76:34 mark of the second half.
Gissuradottir found the back of the net from about 11 yards out in the box off a throw-in from sophomore forward
Josephine Curran (Williamstown, N.J.), who was credited with the assist.
Barton senior goalkeeper
Cara Davis (Angier, N.C.) registered five saves for her third shutout of the year including second straight. Francis Marion's Makayla Willets (Mastic, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal despite stopping five shots as well. The Patriots held an 11-9 in shots taken in the setback.
The Bulldogs also avenged a 2-0 setback to the Patriots earlier in the season at home on Saturday, September 23.
Barton returns home to take on UNC Pembroke on Saturday at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex beginning at 5:00 p.m., while Francis Marion travels to Young Harris, Ga., to play Young Harris Saturday, October 21, at Noon.
