Barton women’s soccer battles Chowan to a 2-2 tie in home conference action

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (2-4-4, 2-3-3) tied Chowan (2-5-2, 2-3-2), 2-2, Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.

Barton junior midfielder Cambria Oldham (Southport, N.C.) scored the match-tying goal – her first of the season – in the 52nd minute when she received a pass from freshman midfielder Lilly Moss (Prairieville, La.) at the top of the box, turned and finished.  Moss was credited with the assist.  The goal was Oldham's first of the season.

Chowan scored just 28 seconds into the match courtesy of Laura Hulme (Huddersfield, ENGLAND) while Lieke Van den Akker (Hooglanderveen, NETHERLANDS) added the Hawks' second score at the 34:59 mark of the first half.

Barton senior forward Kassie Krul (Rockport, Maine) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the year after finishing off a shot from junior defender Taylor Smith (Dudley, N.C.), who hit the crossbar off a corner kick which led directly to the goal in the seventh minute of play.

Chowan held a 12-10 edge in shots taken while both goalkeepers – the Bulldogs' senior Cara Davis (Angier, N.C.) and the Hawks' Kirsten Peterson (Medway, Mass.) – allowed just one goal.  Davis made three saves while Peterson notched five stops on the evening.

Barton remains at home to take on Emmanuel in a conference match Saturday at 12:30 p.m., while Chowan hosts North Greenville Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
