WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (5-5-3, 3-3-2) played Chowan (4-3-3, 4-1-2) to a scoreless tie Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.
The Hawks came into the match ranked No. 9 in the recent United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Southeast Regional rankings.
Barton held a 16-14 edge in shots taken while both goalkeepers – Bulldogs' sophomore
Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) and Chowan's Chase Jansen (Palm Bay, Fla.) – earned shutouts. Gunnarsson stopped six shots while Jansen tallied nine saves on the night. The shutout was also Gunnarsson's third on the year.
Barton also stretched its streak without a loss to five matches – 3-0-2 – and bounced back from a 3-0 setback to Chowan earlier in the season on Wednesday, September 20, in Murfreesboro, N.C.
Barton remains at home to take on Emmanuel on Saturday, October 14, in league action Saturday beginning at 2:30 p.m., while Chowan hosts North Greenville Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
