FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Barton men's basketball team (7-5, 5-0) remained the lone unbeaten team in Conference Carolinas play with an 89-71 victory over Emmanuel (7-7, 3-3) Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at the Shaw Athletic Center.
Sophomore guard
Marcus Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) was the story of the contest for the Bulldogs, finishing with a career-high 42 points on 15-of-20 shooting to go along with six rebounds and five assists in the win. Boykin, who leads the team in scoring at 21.4 points per game, also hit 11-of-12 from the charity stripe.
Barton senior forward
Trevon Spencer (Columbia, N.C.) added 21 points to go along with nine rebounds as the visitors held a 41-24 edge on the boards and shot 53 percent (32-of-60) from the floor in the victory.
The Lions, who lost their second straight game, put four players in double figures and were led by Tavarus Webb (Hartwell, Ga.) with 25 points in the setback.
Barton held a 39-31 edge at halftime and remained in the lead the rest of the way. The Bulldogs scored 50 points after the break and shot 65 percent (20-of-31) from the field after intermission.
Barton returns home to take on North Greenville in a league contest Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Emmanuel next travels to Due West, S.C., to take on Erskine next Tuesday, January 10, at 7:00 p.m.
