WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (0-5) fought hard but fell to top-ranked Hawai'i (7-0) by a 3-0 score Saturday night in front of a nearly-packed Wilson Gymnasium.
The Rainbow Warriors, the two-time defending NCAA National Champions, won over the Bulldogs by scores of 25-11, 25-19 and 25-14.
Hawai'i was led by Alaka'I Todd (Kailua, O'ahu) with a match-high 13 kills while Brett Sheward (Newport Beach, Calif.) added 34 assists and nine digs as the Rainbow Warriors completed their East Coast Trip with a 3-0 record. Hawai'i beat Belmont Abbey and Queens earlier in the week.
Barton was led by sophomore outside hitter
Brandon Johnston (Hawkes Bay, NEW ZEALAND) with eight kills and sophomore setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wis.) with seven kills and four digs in the losing effort. Hawai'i hit .429 for the match and limited Barton to a .023 hitting percentage in the victory.
Barton remains at home to host Queens next Saturday evening, February 4, at 6:00 p.m., inside Wilson Gymnasium while Hawai'i faces Stanford on Friday, February 10, in Stanford, Calif., at 5:00 p.m.
