WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's indoor track and field teams wrapped up competition Saturday at the Mondo College Invitational at the JDL Fast Track.
On the men's side, Barton senior
Deshawn Owens (Pikeville, N.C.) broke his own school record in the 3,000-meter run (8:50.89) and took fifth place overall. In addition, Owens took third overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.05.

Quante Downey (Rocky Mount, N.C.) took 11th overall in the pole vault (12'8") while junior
Chase Eaton (Wilson, N.C.) was 14th in the seeded 400-meter dash (53.75).
The highest women's athlete to place for the Bulldogs was senior
Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.), who finished 11th overall in the 800-meter run (2:31.28). Finally, Barton freshman
Cassandra Schrubb (Piqua, Ohio) ran the women's 3,000-meter run in 11:16.40, good for 14th overall.
The Barton indoor track and field teams will next compete in the Carolina Challenge, hosted by the University of South Carolina, on Friday, January 20, and Saturday, January 21, at the Carolina Track and Field Complex in Columbia, S.C.
