Barton men’s soccer tries to rally but falls to Shaw, 1-0, at home

WILSON, N.C. – The Shaw University men's soccer team (2-1) won its second straight match over a Conference Carolinas opponent with a 1-0 victory over Barton (1-3) Monday evening at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.

The Bears scored the lone goal of the match when Boisey Armwood (Mint Hill, N.C.) finished off a shot in the box off a short pass to the left from Wissem Obeid (Paris, FRANCE) at the 42:54 mark of the first half.  Obeid was credited with the assist.

The Bulldogs held an 18-11 edge in shots taken including a 12-2 margin in the second half and had several chances to score late in the contest but came up short.

Barton freshman goalkeeper Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) took the loss despite allowing just one goal to go along with three saves while Shaw's Lukas Dudziak (Magedburg, GERMANY) earned the shutout victory in goal after stopping three shots.

Barton will look to bounce back on Saturday, September 10, when the Bulldogs travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on Converse in the Conference Carolinas opener beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Shaw plays at Converse on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
