WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Barton women's volleyball team (1-6) fell twice on Saturday on the final day of the Hyatt Place Bash at the Beach at Rubin Arena. The Bulldogs fell to both Lynn (3-0) and the host school, Palm Beach Atlantic (3-2).
Lynn 3, Barton 0
The Fighting Knights improved to 5-1 on the season with their second victory of the day in a sweep of the Bulldogs by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-14.
Lynn was led by Monica Mazzoleni (Bergamo, ITALY) with a match-high 19 kills while Nadia Lindner (Ontario, CANADA) added 12 kills as the Fighting Knights hit .424 for the match in the win. Barton senior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Taylorsville, N.C.) finished with five kills but the Bulldogs were limited to a .100 hitting percentage in the setback.
Palm Beach Atlantic 3, Barton 2
The Bulldogs rallied from two sets down to force a fifth set but the Sailfish prevailed by scores of 25-17, 25-14, 26-28, 26-28 and 15-10.
Palm Beach Atlantic, which improved to 5-2 on the season, was led by Kayla Matthews (Phoenix, Ariz.) with 14 kills as the home team held a 68-44 advantage in kills in the win. Anna Beth Stokes (Auburn, Ga.) added 47 assists for the Sailfish.
Gambill totaled a season-high 19 kills while sophomore setter
Hailey Strey (Cape Coral, Fla.) and junior setter
Madison Greene (Angier, N.C.) added 22 and 17 assists, respectively, in the setback. Greene also totaled nine digs to near a double-double.
Barton next opens Conference Carolinas play on Friday, September 16, at 7:00 p.m., against Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C.
