BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (2-6, 1-0) got the Conference Carolinas portion of its schedule off to a strong start with a 3-0 sweep of Belmont Abbey (2-12, 0-1) Friday evening at the Wheeler Center.
The Bulldogs downed the Crusaders by scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 25-23 and snapped a five-match losing streak in the process.
Barton was led by senior right side hitter
Caroline Schoonover (Lutz, Fla.) with a match-high 10 kills while senior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Taylorsville, N.C.) added seven kills and nine digs as the Bulldogs took all three sets by two points.
Junior setter
Madison Greene (Angier, N.C.) finished with 13 assists for the visitors, who totaled 10 blocks in the process. Belmont Abbey's Cameron Young (Omaha, Neb.) tallied a match-high 11 kills but the Crusaders were done in by 14 service errors.
Barton remains on the road to take on North Greenville in a league contest Saturday afternoon in Tigerville, S.C., beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Belmont Abbey hosts Chowan on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., as well.
