Barton men’s soccer on the short end on the road to rival Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (3-6, 2-3) suffered a 4-0 setback to rival Mount Olive (7-4, 4-2) Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at Amon Field.

Four players found the back of the net for the Trojans including the match-winner by Robert Hernandez (Weslaco, Texas) just 7:32 into the contest, his third goal of the season.

Mount Olive, winners of two straight contests, held a slim 11-10 edge in shots taken despite the goal margin.  Guilherme Semola (Rio De Janeiro, BRAZIL) and Walter Gomez (Charlotte, N.C.) both scored their team-leading fourth goals of the season while Axel Engren (Sundsvall, SWEDEN) earned the shutout in goal after stopping four shots for the home team.

Barton freshman goalkeeper, Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivek, ICELAND), suffered the loss despite three saves on the evening.

Barton will look to bounce back on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Bristol, Tenn., to take on King in a league contest beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Mount Olive travels to Tigerville, S.C., to take on North Greenville Friday at 1:30 p.m.
