Barton men’s soccer picks up 3-1 conference road victory over King

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Barton men's soccer team (4-6, 3-3) snapped a two-match skid with a 3-1 Conference Carolinas victory over King (2-5-2, 1-3-1) Sunday afternoon at Parks Field.

Barton freshman forward Blake Grove (Newstead, AUSTRALIA) scored a pair of goals within a three-minute span late in the second half to help the Bulldogs break a one-all tie in the victory over the Tornado.  Grove has a team-leading four goals on the season.

Grove's second goal came at the top of the box off a pass to the center from freshman midfielder Ingebrigt Braenden (Trondheim, NORWAY) to put the contest away at the 69:16 mark of the second half.

Braenden also assisted on the first goal of the game courtesy of graduate student forward Peer Brendler (Gifhorn, GERMANY) in the 16th minute.  Barton held a 20-7 edge in shots taken while freshman goalkeeper Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivek, ICELAND) earned the victory after stopping five shots.

For King, Kenneth Walton (New Bern, N.C.) found the back of the net in the 52nd minute while Jack Hyatt (Nashville, Tenn.) made three saves but suffered the loss in goal.

Barton returns home to begin a three-match home stand on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., when the Bulldogs host Francis Marion in a conference contest while King hosts Converse Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
