MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (3-4, 3-2) couldn't overcome Mount Olive (7-3, 5-0), 3-1, in a Conference Carolinas showdown Tuesday afternoon at Amon Field.
The Trojans' Ashley Lindsay (Massapequa, N.Y.) headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Malewenn Gaiffas (Saint-Germain-De-La-Grange, FRANCE) at the 27:11 mark of the first half which proved to be the match-winner while Delia Allwood (Piscataway, N.J.) added her team-leading seventh goal of the season as the Trojans remained unbeaten in league play.
Barton avoided the shutout when sophomore defender
Taylor Smith (Dudley, N.C.) found the back of the net in the 87th minute for her first goal of the season.
Mount Olive held a 17-9 advantage in shots taken while Nicole Solicito (Stony Point, N.Y.) totaled three saves in goal for the Trojans, who won their sixth straight contest. Barton senior goalkeeper
Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) tallied seven stops in the losing effort.
Barton looks to bounce back on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Bristol, Tenn., to take on King in a league match beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Mount Olive faces North Greenville in Tigerville, S.C., beginning at Noon on Saturday.
