WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (2-8, 1-2) fell to Francis Marion (7-6, 2-2) in a tight, five-set contest by a 3-2 score Tuesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium in a Conference Carolinas match.
The match was also the 2022 home opener for the Bulldogs. The Patriots won by scores of 21-25, 25-14, 25-15, 22-25 and 15-11.
Francis Marion was led by Kalee Peter (Carroll, Iowa) with a team-high 15 kills and was one of four Patriots with at least 10 kills in the contest. Kaylee Gillespie (Pickens, S.C.) added a double-double – 42 assists and 15 digs – for Francis Marion, who forced Barton into 14 reception errors in the victory.

Allison Gambill (Taylorsville, N.C.) with a match-high 16 kills while sophomore middle hitter
Sarah Burton (Aynor, S.C.) totaled 12 kills and a team-high five blocks in the setback. Freshman setter
Sadie Hill (Ashland, Ky.) added 36 assists and seven digs for the Bulldogs, who suffered their second straight setback.
Barton next travels to Pembroke, N.C., to face UNC Pembroke in a league match next Wednesday, September 28, at 6:00 p.m., in Pembroke, N.C., while Francis Marion hosts Mount Olive on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
