SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (1-2, 1-0) opened Conference Carolinas play with a 1-0 victory over Converse (2-4, 0-2) Saturday afternoon at Weisiger Stadium and Hayden Abney Fulp Field.
The Bulldogs scored the lone goal of the match at the 10:30 mark of the first half when senior forward
Kassie Krul (Rockport, Maine) intercepted an attempted goalkeeper pass to a defender inside the box and found the back of the net.
Barton held an 8-1 edge in shots taken while senior goalkeeper
Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) earned the shutout victory.
Converse's goalkeeper, Daelynn Perry (New Smyrna, Fla.), suffered the loss despite allowing just one score to go along with two saves.
Barton hosts Belmont Abbey in its home opener on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., in a league contest while Converse travels to Macon, Ga., to take on Wesleyan College on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
