AIKEN, S.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (1-2) suffered a 3-0 setback to Lenoir-Rhyne (1-0) Saturday afternoon on the final day of the USC Aiken Invitational at the Convocation Center.
The Bears defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-20 in Lenoir-Rhyne's first match of the year.
The Bears were paced by Ashley Hawkins (Olin, N.C.) with 14 kills and 13 digs while Mackenzie Hulsey (Sanford, N.C.) added 25 assists and nine digs for a near double-double in the victory. Lenoir-Rhyne also hit .272 for the match in the sweep of Barton.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Taylorsville, N.C.) with a double-double – 10 kills and 13 digs – and freshman setter
Sadie Hill (Ashland, Ky.) totaled 15 assists in the setback.
Barton next competes in the Hyatt Place Bash at the Beach on Friday, September 2, against New Haven (11:00 a.m.) and St. Cloud State (2:00 p.m.) on the campus of Palm Beach Atlantic State in West Palm Beach, Fla. Lenoir-Rhyne faces USC Aiken later tonight at 7:30 p.m., in the final match of the tournament.
