SALISBURY, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (0-1) fell to No. 21 Catawba (2-0), 5-1, in the team's 2022 season opener Saturday night at Frock Field.
The Indians, who went 18-0-3 last year and hosted the regionals, were led by Hannah Dunn (Concord, N.C.) with a pair of goals and an assist in the win. Dunn scored both goals in the first six minutes of the match as the home team took control early.
Barton senior midfielder
Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.), a three-time All-Conference Carolinas honoree, cut the margin to one with the Bulldogs' lone goal at the 30:09 mark of the first half but the visitors were kept off the board the rest of the way.
Catawba, who held a 23-4 advantage in shots taken, added three more scores after halftime. The Indians' Kasey Hahn (Davidson, N.C.) tallied a goal and assisted on the match-winner while Sierra Davis (Cornelius, N.C.) earned the win in goal for Catawba. Davis stopped three shots while Barton junior goalkeeper
