AIKEN, S.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (1-1) opened the 2022 season with a split Friday in the USC Aiken Invitational at the Convocation Center, falling to the host Pacers by a 3-0 score before sweeping Paine, 3-0.

The Pacers defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 25-22, 25-13 and 25-19 and were led by Sadie McKay (Bellville, Texas) with 10 kills while Mallory Barash (Boca Raton, Fla.) added 28 assists and seven digs as the Pacers opened the season with a victory on their home court.

Allison Gambill (Taylorsville, N.C.) tallied nine kills and 13 digs – both team-highs – despite the loss. However, the Bulldogs were limited to a .096 hitting percentage in the setback. Barton senior setter

The Bulldogs bounced back with a sweep of the Lions, 25-8, 25-18 and 25-19, to pick up their first win of the 2022 campaign.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Caroline Schoonover (Lutz, Fla.) and sophomore right side hitter
Lily Haaga (Herriman, Utah) with 11 kills each while freshman setter
Sadie Hill (Ashland, Ky.) chipped in with 17 assists in the victory. The Bulldogs also held the Lions to a 0.051 hitting percentage. Paine's Daija Broadnax (Fort Worth, Texas) totaled a team-high seven kills.
On the final day of the invitational on Saturday, Barton takes on Lenoir-Rhyne at 2:30 p.m., while Paine takes on Converse beginning at 5:00 p.m.
