BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (0-19, 0-14) fell to Lees-McRae (8-14, 4-10) by a 3-0 score Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match and the regular season finale at Williams Gymnasium.
The Bobcats won by scores of 25-20, 30-28 and 25-19 and swept the season series from the Bulldogs. In addition, Lees-McRae snapped a seven-match losing streak in the process.
Lees-McRae was led by Michael Marsans (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) with a match-high 24 kills while Bradley Peters (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 34 assists, 10 kills and seven digs in the victory.
Barton was paced by sophomore outside hitter
Brandon Johnston (Hawkes Bay, NEW ZEALAND) with 11 kills and 11 digs for a double-double while freshman setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wis.) added 28 assists in the losing effort. The Bulldogs had a chance in the second set with set point but the Bobcats scored the final three points to take the set.
Both Barton and Lees-McRae will next compete in the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Championship, which begins on Wednesday, April 13, with the first round at the higher seeds. Pairings will be announced later by the league office.
