WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (8-6, 3-3) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end with an 11-9 setback to rival Mount Olive (9-5, 5-1) Friday evening in the regular season finale and Conference Carolinas contest at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.
The Trojans' Aidan Lalonde (British Columbia, CANADA) led all scorers with four goals while Chaz Goodman (Odenton, Md.) and Braydon Hickey (Ontario, CANADA) added two goals each as the visitors won their third straight game.
Barton was led by senior attacker
Seth Mandryk (Stonewall, Manitoba, CANADA) with three scores but the Trojans' defense limited the Bulldogs to one goal in each of the first and third periods.
Mount Olive jumped out to a 5-1 advantage in the second period and maintained the advantage the rest of the way. Barton junior midfielder
Mark Crawford (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) and sophomore midfielder
J.J. Mitchell (Winston-Salem, N.C.) added a pair of goals and an assist in the losing effort.
In goal, Mount Olive's Andrew Avarello (Clarence, N.Y.) earned the win after stopping 15 shots while Barton senior
Giuseppe Brown (Gorham, Maine) suffered the loss despite 11 saves. Mount Olive held advantages in both shots taken (38-36) and ground balls (33-27).
Barton and Mount Olive will next play in the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Championship which takes place next week beginning with the Quarterfinals on Tuesday. The league office will announce the pairings this weekend.
